Euro Tour “GBGBG” - Part 5

Länsmanseken 5, Lerum - 2010-02-21

The last day of the tour was definitely a worthy finale. In one of Europe’s perhaps most amazing cities, Luxembourg. We played at the club “d:qliq” and Fred who owned the club greeted us with open arms. This was clearly the finest locations we have played in thus far and we had a good feeling after sound check. All prerequisites for a nice evening.

Since we heard of the dramatic snowstorm that have swept over Sweden, and we had to be back on Monday we decided to leave after gig. A rather wise decision when we look back at it now.

The gig was brilliant and the room filled up quickly during our long ah-ah intro. Afterwards, we stuck around with all the beautiful people and gently packed our stuff into the car to begin the 16 hours home to Sweden.

It has been a wonderful tour and we can only thank all the thousands who made this trip possible. Before we leave, I would like to line up a few things that we forgot to tell you about…

  • Since my regular shoes had far too many holes for the barren winter climate, I replaced them with my brother’s rubber boots. This resulted in half of all the concerts where played waering those boots.
  • You who already know or have seen us before know that my brother Linlun becomes like a monster on stage. This, we experienced several times when he flew like a tornado out from stage into the kitchen, random stairs and other rooms during the performances. But the wildest flight was however in Salzburg when he was throwing himself head first into the wall and marked it for life.
  • On the way to Hamburg, we forgot Oscar at a rest stop. Since it feels like a classic thing to do when your’e on tour, we can well reveal that Fredrik drove away on purpose. We had not anticipated that there would be several miles to the next exit. And then as far to run back and turn on. Poor rat in the snow …
  • It has been written very little about the mood on the trip. In the interview before I feared that six energy bundles in the same bus would be our death. But it went pretty smoothly. However, we had our dips, and I had the most difficulties with irregular dinner hours.
  • For some strange reason Oscar lost his phone and his brown jacket at every place we visited. However, we always found them the moments before departure.
  • Despite all the lost stuff, we succeeded, however, finding everything in the end. The only thing we got rid of was a can of strings.
  • Something that was not very rock n roll with the tour was the sick economical graphs Fred managed to do with his excel skillz. You could really say that he gave pie-praphs a completely new face.
  • We have certainly missed a lot of more things but. Thanks to everyone!
  • Nowadays, everyone’s got a blog. Join us on new adventures if you want;) www.theberndt.com

Euro Tour “GBGBG” - Part 4

We continued to explore the beautiful city the day after arrival. Once again, we divided ourselves where I Jonas and Linus climbed the world’s highest mountain and photographed in panoramic mode, while the other half took a trip around town and visited various music stores.
Sometimes things just not make sense. How could the tour’s second Monday gig with absolute the worst possibilities of technical equipment be the best? Perhaps because the city of Graz is largely composed of students, perhaps because the evening’s promoters was a collection of beautiful dudes or maybe just because it simply becomes so sometimes. The place was full (150-180 people) and already after the first song (despite some trouble in the intro) response was tremendous. And the same lovely atmosphere went all the show through. And in the end, we stood and danced on the Irish wooden tables. Quite successful. And we sold a thousand cd’s plus other merch. The evening continued in good spirit and we hung with a bunch of nice random people.

But the next day our luck was over. We found out that the first gig in Italy was canceled. After a quick stop at the city festival, we left the beautiful city Graz and went through the cliff scenery to Vecenzia in northern Italy. Once there we met the most awesome man in Italy named Alberto. He had helped us to book hostel for the night, and after showing us the rooms he invited us home to his apartment for pasta and original tomato sauce. Incredibly satisfied with cooked food in our stomachs we sat and talked into the wee hours about politics, pasta and coffee.
Still a bit down over the cancellation of today’s event, we had to bite the bullet o make the best of the situation. It was a day of tourism again today. Remained in Vecenzia and looked at old buildings and then on to Cezena. We bought a picnic and went out to the sea. Wonderful to feel the smell of freedom in a 19-degree sun. We went bavk to the city and checked in at the tour’s first real hotel.
The only show in Italy was also the show with the latest get-in. 20:00. Before we had time for a wonderful day in the beautiful town Cezena. Sunshine, ice cream, coffee, tourism at the castle and just some good times. The gig took place at a small cafe inside the alleys and was brilliant.

The next morning we went up early and waved goodbye to the warmth and beautiful Italy. After a ten-hour drive, we rolled into the southern German town of Tubingen. Here we got a warm welcome by the people that ran the club Hegelstrasse 7th. After sound check and a delicious bean soup, we took a little nap in the kindergarten. The gig was held in a small cylindrical stone cave and became again a real success. The actual party began when the music that was Balkan-style gave way to Abba-marathons. That is what happens when Dj-Raz-Ma-Taz gets hold of the mixer.

Now. One gig left.

Euro Tour “GBGBG” - Part 3

The adventure continues in Hamburg. Since we had arrived a day earlier and all the equipment was already loaded a the venue, we had time for some sightseeing. Half of the crew put on their Tyrolean hats and went off to see what Hamburg had to offer. Jonas and I stayed in the warmth and checked out internet / tried to work off a tough cold. The cats from Wetzlar arrived at the same time as us to “Haus 73″ and after a bit of rowing, sounchecking and eating it was once again time for gig.
Jonas “Skrållan” ”Merchman” Pettersson did probably one of his best gigs so far by hanging the bags really high and presented the discs in an extraordinary way. However, was this the first evening with almost no audiance. About 20 people resulted in a fairly empty room. However, this didn’t stop us from pulling off a gig with the same caliber as previous ones. Afterwards, there were many who came forward and said they liked us and our merch percent of sales held steady. I went home and continued to work off the disease while the other continued drinking the night off with the cats from Paris. The adventure involved nasty drinks, crazy neighbors and the rat on scooter.

There was no one moving when Fred and I got up early the next morning to go back to the venue and wrap up the equipment. Once we were all packed, we had a sad message from our dear booker. The organizers in Landau had messed it up, and today’s event was canceled. We were in all cases, promised free gas and a hotel outside the city so it was just start driving. Approximately seven hours, a pizza and two Radler (beer + sprite) later we arrived and checked in at Formule 1 in Manheim.
Properly rested, we drew from Germany and the mountainous landscapes of Switzerland.
Along the way we have been taught to keep up with the tour language. Here’s a small list of words that might be useful to know:

Get-In: Time for you to be in place.
Load-In: Time for loading and rigging of equipment.
Soundcheck: Time for the sound check.
Dinner: Time for a warm meal.
Doors open: When the venue opens.
Stage time: Time for the gig.
Curfew: Time when the place closes.
Get-Out: Time when it is time to move to the next get-in.

Why do we list these expressions you might think? Well, that gig in Switzerland took place in the capital of clocks, Biel. It is also the largest double-speaking city in Switzerland. On arrival we were met by Rolex complexes and signs of great athletes and then view of a beautiful city. We stayed in the middle of the batter between the high wooden houses and cobblestone streets. The Etage Club was on top of a fine restaurant and the town was adorned with posters of arrival. Despite a packed room, nice people and good food the show was a bit disappointing. We had a lot of technical hassles and the sound was not quite what we wanted. An okay gig but not as good as the other ones before. We did, however, concluded that it was useful for us with a setback and turned it to something good. Oscar and Fred kept on partying while we went to bed.

After just a few hours sleep we took of early in the morning for Fridays gig in Salzburg. With good margins, we found the little bar called Denkmal. It was a crazy event with many devoted fans in the audience. Merchman worked hard in his booth and we were also headhunted by some other larger venues that wanted to book us for future tours. Since the contract included both the gig and after-party ´til 04:00, it was only to suck-it-up. We danced to pieces and because you cannot dance if you’re of the male sex in these countries, we were quickly called gay. It was an awesome night, and again much of the good stuff. We reached home at our hostel in time for check-out and spent half the day sleeping in the lobby.

Now we are in Graaz. The nicest town so far. We had time to eat some dinner and drink local beer. We stay above the pub, The Office, and tomorrow it will do some more sightseeing …

Euro Tour “GBGBG” - Part 2

Langenfelder Strasse, Hamburg - 2010-02-09

Our hopes of finding Wi-Fi, W-Lan or internet was not met properly. But now we are sitting on a slow line in Hamburg five days into the tour and so far all have flowed really well and been really, really successful.

It was a great start in Malmö at perhaps Swedens smallest stage, Vinylbaren. Full of people, a nice band called “Turn Off Your Televison”, and quite ok Thai food. This was the only gig where sleeping was not part of the deal. Luckily, we had earlier this week found out that our friend Jonas “Skrållan” Pettersson (studying in Lund) had a two-week hole to fill. So now we have a 1:st driver/Merchman which feels awesome. The night was simply spent in his room in Lunds tightest student corridors.

The next day was a tough one when we had the tour’s longest drive in front of us. Up at seven, thanks for the coffee and hit the road. We rolled over bridges, through the flat Danish countryside and into German territory. The GPS failed but experienced as we are, we had a backup. Also lucky that Rasmus had an excellent sense of smell for “Schtau” (Traffic congestion). Many times Raz nostrils steered us through mile-long queues.

Having arrived in Solingen, which would be our first German gig, we met up with the lovely organizers. The actual club area/stage was pretty small and I felt a bit industrial-underground, but in a nice way. We installed ourselves quickly in the cozy bedroom on top of the club and started to bond with the boys in “Paper Planes”

A few beers later, it was time. With the Berndt letters standing on the DJ booth and the microphones on the floor, we pulled of one of our better gigs in a long time. Really nice atmosphere and yet again with a crowded room. Afterwards there was beer drinking in the merch area and continued partying in the bedroom and on the small concrete dance floor. There were a lot of good stuff going on. Bas-dancing, German folk songs, and tasting of knäcke-bread with cream cheese.

The next morning we woke up in tears in the smoke-filled room about half past twelve. We discovered to our horror that the exotic knäcke-bread and soft cheese with sweet pepper flavor rations was almost gone. Fail. We were close to get a Doppel-fail when Sunday’s gig in Landau had been moved forward and we suddenly had nowhere to sleep for the night. Fortunately, we had to do with the world’s best club organizers, Laura and Dominik, who let us stay for another night.

Really pleased to have received an extra night in Solingen we spent the remaining time to help with cleaning, exploring the city and eat a wonderful, good pasta with tomato sauce. After a bit of chilling, movies and computer we slept hard.

The next morning we packed the car and pointed the GPS at Wretzlar. We found out that Cologne was pretty close and because there was not that many hours of driving we decided to see the sights a bit. We drove there, check out the great churches, ate Chinese buffet and drove off.

We arrived at Wretzlar at he same time as the evening’s other band, Cats In Paris. Their car had capsized down in Paris and they had now tied all the packaging to the roof of their little Ford. Awesome.

After some warm wecome cheers of champagne, soundcheck and packing, it was time for dinner. Our host Siegmar lived up in the village along the cobblestone streets of a crazy apartment. Up through the thousands of rickety stairs we faced rooms filled with everything from carved wooden dools to “Katten Findus” posters. We had a really good dinner and then it was time.

Even this nights gig was a successful one and despite Monday it was still a half-full room. Cats In Paris was alsa a great live act, and it will be really fun to see them again tomorrow night.

Now we have just arrived in Hamburg, filled our stomachs with wook alá fred and been taking a shower for the first time in three days. See you again soon!

Euro Tour “GBGBG” - Part 1

Home, Lerum - 2010-02-05

Hello diary, blog and the rest of the Internet. We have had a busy month behind us, and two exciting weeks ahead. There have been releases, reviews, competitions, merchorders, planning, and finally a really, really successful release party at Parken in Gothenburg.

Everything went according to the plans. Our friends in Oh jollity helped us out, we had hats with popcorn for our newly started company “Pophat Music ’s behalf, and perhaps the world’s prettiest merchstand.

The whole thing was of course not worse by the fact that everything was filmed by four cameras, that Fredrik hadfinished with the lights and we filled the entire concert venue. Really, really successful evening and thanks to everyone who came by.

But that’s not really what we will talk about for now. You will follow us on our first European tour where everything can happen.

Yesterday we were up half the night and packed, marked all the wires in different colors and freestyled a B on the basedrum. Now Johan (The man from Kultur Ungdom who helped us with the gigs) left of the car, everything is packed and we are finally ready to get to the first stop. Malmö.

How will this end. Will the letters keep intact all the way, will Oscar “Ratvader” Rydelius find an Italian seneorita to share the rest of their lives with or is Frederick’s Playlists going to drive us crazy.

It may be time to reject. Hang on as we heard again soon!
